I will be the first one to tell you that I have never been a huge fan of vibrant lip color …on myself that is. I have always played up the eye more and kept to a nude lip or a light pink at most. I just always felt it looked weird on me. I have always told others that a quick way to change your look is by a new lip color, should have taken my advice a long time ago.
I recently added some new lip colors to my makeup kit and have tried them out on my clients but never on myself. So this weekend I grabbed the bareMinerals Red Zin..with a disposable lip brush, sanitation is always #1,and started applying. I first used a nude lip liner, by Sonia Kashuk and then applied the lip color. The color goes on very well, it is pretty moisturizing so if you have drier lips, this will help soften them a bit. Step one, the color came out nice but how long will it last?? Naturally a dinner would be a good test.So out I went! A salad, main course, dessert and a few glasses of wine later I returned home…with color still intact! I couldn’t believe it!! I was pleasantly surprised. I even received a compliment or two. I was sold!
With all the lead scare out there in lip colors I did check this product out on www.ewg.org/skin deep/ and it received an overall 3 on the rating scale which made me more apt to continue to use it.
*If you aren't familiar with the rating scale here is a quick overview:
0-2 Low hazard
3-6 Moderate hazard
7-10 High hazard
When I read through the ingredients they all seemed pretty good..another bonus! So I am officially a lip color convert! I may not be wearing my red lips out everyday but I will definitely be rockin’ it more often.
